The annual Dominican Tourism Exchange Conference (DATE) will return to Punta Can in May after a two-year absence triggered by a pandemic. Sponsored by the Hotel and Tourism Association of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES), the event is the premier summit of the Dominican tourism industry.
The in-person conference will take place May 11-13 at the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center in Punta Cana and will feature more than 160 confirmed suppliers and buyers from 20 countries for meetings with international travel agents and tour operators, officials said. responsible.
The gathering will feature “the main suppliers of the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry”, officials said, as well as cultural attractions including on-site art exhibits, musical entertainment and artistic performances.
“Our culture, together with our gastronomy, enriches our overall tourism offer and captivates our visitors who return to stay with us year after year,” said Andrés Marranzini, Executive Vice President of ASONAHORES. “DATE provides an ideal opportunity to highlight and celebrate this, which is also part of our overall promotional strategy.”
“Thanks to the hard work and strong commitment of our sector, as well as the attractive diversity of our Dominican product, we have seen a steady growth in occupancy in our destination over the past year,” said Rafael Blanco. Tejera, president of ASONAHORES.
Travel to the Dominican Republic has rebounded significantly from the pandemic-caused travel disruptions of the past two years. Luis Abinader, the country’s president, recently announced the launch of a national airline.
“This success demonstrates the effectiveness of our response to the global pandemic and allows us to proudly organize this key event in person,” said Blanco Tejera, “so that we can continue to build on our strong foundations with the tourism sector and its stakeholders”.
