Here’s a sneak peek at Gustav Klimt’s new immersive New York attraction

0

This week marks the debut of a glittering new attraction for New York: the Hall of Lights.

Located in the majestic and emblematic headquarters of the Beaux-Arts of the former savings bank for emigrants near the town hall, it arrives courtesy of Culturespaces, one of the major forces that propelled “Immersive Van Gogh” to international sensation status last year via his L’Atelier des Lumières in Paris. The latter’s immersive Van Gogh light show featured as a date in Netflix hit Emily in Paris.

To recreate this magic of trysts, Culturespaces is banking heavily on the Viennese painter Gustav Klimt. Now New Yorkers don’t have to cross the sea to the Belvedere Museum in Vienna to see the dorms’ favorite poster The kiss. Instead, they can see it brought to life and projected on a grand scale across the lavish interiors of the Hall of Lights for a show called “Immersive Klimt: Gold in Motion,” alongside other famous Klimt works like the Beethoven frieze and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer (Languid animations of works by fellow Viennese successor Egon Schiele also make an appearance in the show).

If that’s not enough immersive entertainment for you, “Gold in Motion” loops with two other shows: one is an animated show dedicated to the rich designs of artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000) , bearing on the Viennese theme. ; the other is “Five Movements: Contemporary Creation,” a 10-minute experience featuring digitally augmented dance performances in five different styles from tech studio Nohlab.

Also be sure to drop down to the bank’s basement, where a gallery of new media has been tucked away in the giant vault of the Emigrant Savings Banks. A mirrored room in which plays a piece produced exclusively for Culturespaces by François Vautier, a disturbing and hovering digital animation.

To give an idea of what awaits you at the Hall of Lights, take a look at the photos below.
