It comes nearly a week after the UK changed its new travel guidelines to include the Indian version of the AstraZeneca vaccine in its updated list of approved Covid-19 vaccines. Following strong criticism from India over the UK’s refusal to recognize Covishield, London has included the vaccine in its updated international travel advisory. However, Indian travelers vaccinated with two doses of Covishield are still expected to undergo 10 days of quarantine in the UK despite the amendment, with UK officials clarifying that the inclusion of the vaccine would not make much of a difference.
âWe are convinced that Covishield is not a problem. The UK is open to travel and we are already seeing a lot of people going from India to UK whether they are tourists, businessmen or students. We have had detailed technical certification discussions with the creators of the CoWin app and the NHS app on both apps. They are happening at a rapid pace, to ensure that the two countries mutually recognize each other’s vaccine certificates, âUK High Commissioner Alex Ellis said in a statement.
