Changjiang County is located west of China Hainan Free Trade Port and is known as “China Kapok town”. It has become a popular springtime destination on Hainan Island for his magnificent Kapok. In addition, Changjiang County was recently awarded the title of “Hainan Forest City”, according to the Changjiang County Convergent Media Center.
In Changjiang, visitors can enjoy kapok flowers beside the Changhua River and visiting Bawangling Forest is a must, as well as rock climbing in the nature reserve. The series of attractions has become an iconic experience for those who travel to Changjiang in winter and spring.
Every year from February to March, the scenic landscapes of mountains and kapok groves along the Changhua River form the so-called “ten-mile natural gallery”. The banks of the Changhua River are transformed by a magnificent red kapok. The famous Bawangling Forest Nature Reserve also adds sparkle to Changjiang’s landscape. Here, visitors can not only climb cliffs, trek through the jungle, trace the source of the river and explore caves, but also appreciate the even rarer Hainan gibbon than the giant panda. Already 40 years ago, according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, it was classified as “critically endangered” and is therefore protected at national level. Meanwhile, the beauty of Changjiang is more reflected in its blue coast, natural bathing beach, various sea erosion landforms and special rock scenery.
In addition to the unique beautiful natural scenery, Changjiang also has the rich customs of Li villages. Hongshui Village in Wangxia Town is a Li ethnic village that still retains the old boathouse, known as the “living fossil of the Li culture”. Its people weave Li brocades and make Li pottery, both of which belong to the national intangible cultural heritage.
The Li villages were among the mountains and the waters. Changjiang offers pure beauty as always. In recent years, relying on its abundant natural attractions and cultural resources, Changjiang has established an all-season tourism brand for the whole region of “appreciating kapok blossoms in spring, enjoying the fragrance of mango in summer , visit Chess Bay in autumn and climb Bawangling Mountains in winter”, a slogan attracting more tourists to visit and explore Changjiang.
