A 40-year-old man accused of being a member of an ISIS terrorist organization, who was arrested yesterday by the Anti-Terrorism Service (DAEEV) in collaboration with the National Intelligence Service, has been brought before a court in Athens shortly after 9:30 am Friday. .
A complaint was filed against the 40-year-old ISIS operative while he was before the prosecutor in the trial court, Proto Theme reported.
It is noted that he was arrested on December 7, 2021 by the Attica Aliens Directorate, not for being an ISIS jihadist, but for engaging in criminal activities related to human trafficking. human beings and on weapons charges, but was released on bail.
Among other criminal activities, he is accused of belonging to a criminal organization which facilitated entry and exit from Greece, of having possessed and forged passports and travel documents of third parties, of having accepted products of crime and having illegal guns.
What was not originally known was his membership of ISIS, which only became known later due to foreign services, and the man was therefore arrested again in Patissia. .
He is said to have a wife in Iraq and one in the Netherlands.
The criminal organization, for which the 40-year-old Iraqi was arrested on December 7 after being released on 5,000 euros bail, had been carrying out a structured operation that had been ongoing since at least September 2020.
The sole purpose of the organization was to gain illicit proceeds through the smuggling of immigrants to and from Greece.
During the operation to dismantle the organization, in the presence of judicial officers, searches were carried out in a house, a store and a travel agency.
The following items were found and confiscated:
- A multitude of false digital documents
- 980 grams of cannabis
- 80 passports and identity documents, forged or reported stolen
- Two electronic scales
- 39 cell phones
The financial benefit of the organization of its illegal activities is estimated at 900,000 euros.
